About College
Goverment Degree College, Chopal came into being vide Government of Himachal Pradesh,
Department of Higher Education, Notification No. EDN-A-Ka(1)-2/2014-Pt dated 24 th
September, 2016. The foundation stone for the construction of the college building was laid
down by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh, in June, 2017, with the support of the
local people and all local administration a place half kilometer from the main market Chopal
(near Lankadvir Mandir) has been selected for the construction of the new college building. For
the time being, the college is functioning at Nagar Panchayat Building which is located next to
the Tehsil ground. At present the college offers Bachelor’s Degrees in two main streams of
studies: Humanities (Arts) and Commerce.
Being situated in rural surroundings, this college is a boon for the students of all the
Panchayats of the area. With the active cooperation from students, teaching and non-teaching
fraternity, the college is developing in both academic and non-academic sphere. The college
strives to cater to the needs of students especially those who cannot afford to go to colleges in the
cities to pursue their higher education. The college provides guidance to the students with
reference to career choices and overall development. Since social awareness plays a very
significant role in child’s life, the college promotes social awareness among students through
various social and cultural activities.
